Boing Boing

Boing Boing….that was the noise I heard today as my son played with his Slinky down our stairs and it brought a tear to my eye as it, along with the extreme flat spell we’ve been having (apart from something resembling a wave today) reminded me Spring is upon us.

And that can only mean death to a surfer in SE Qld unfortunately, at least for the next 3 months.  And I have to say apart from the next 2-3 days (and even then it will only be marginally surfable at the GC south facing beaches) there’s nothing to even get remotely excited about on any of the charts for some time to come.

Something small my sneak under the radar on Wednesday (probably more so after mid-late morning), and with potentially N/NW winds on the cards, those in the know may wish to scout out some south facing back beaches to savour what looks to be the last of anything surfable for SE Qld surfers (once again nothing huge, but something in the 2ft/2ft+ range at GC south facing beaches is a possibility).

After Wednesday, the usual Spring N’ly winds look to set in for a few days, and this has the potential to also send water temperatures plummeting….yet again, another great treasure for SE Qld surfers to look forward to during Spring.

Late next weekend might offer some grovelly weak, peaky locally generated E’ly wind swell, but I’m not expecting anything over 2ft at this stage from the look of the charts, and that’s also at locations of a more northerly latitude as well.

So as much as I hate to say it, it looks like it’s that time of year again to hang the board up for the next 2-3 months and try and take up something else to keep the arms and shoulders at least semi fit.  That way, at least with La Nina kicking in, one can only hope we see some early tropical developments in late November, reassuring us SE Qld surfers as to why we choose to surf in this neck of the woods. :(
