Comp run downs….run down?

How hard is it for people to put together their own result write ups these days?  When I did a Google search on the recent Sintra Portugal Pro, I was looking for the results of the women for my entry here and the DK for throwtail.com. I saw the same 10 lines copy and pasted directly into over a dozen different sites. Lame people, very lame. I’m all for pushing and pimping a link ( my friends on FB would know this all to well ) but as for just blatantly taking old mates write up word for word. Ugh…now that’s just plain lazy.  And its not like the original write up was all that great either….Now I know we cant all be there to see it for ourselves so that we can write amazing tales of victory and defeat for our readers…but that’s the point, we need amazing write ups so we feel like we were there for all the action. Not falling asleep at the screen…..I’m sending emails to several sites with the subject line: ’thesaurus.com’ as soon as I’m finished here.

Any who, all this talk about the just completed Sintra Portugal Pro on my news feed and all of it is about the dudes. Typical. I had to do a bit of detective work to find anything concerning the DK and it was even harder trying to find the women’s results…Well done to Isabella Sousa (Brazil) by the way for taking it out in the end…but one name I was unfamiliar with was the other chick in the final, Miya Inoue from Japan.

Apparently Miya caused quite the upset early on by eliminating the host country’s Mary Lord on the first day and didn’t stop dominating throughout the competition…even eliminating last years winner and this years favourite Catarina Sousa (also from Portugal).

Ive always been a fan of the underdog, the unassuming unseeded competitor that ends up blowing away the big names and making it to the final. If this was a Disney movie she would have come back from debilitating cramps or a shark attack to miraculously take the win. But unfortunately for Miya, Isabella’s experience won out in the end and she just couldnt come up with the goods. Having said that Miya gave it a nudge and had a lot of people rooting for her to take the win. Its always nice to have some fresh faces up on the podium.

Gee, re-wording that was hard……………………………………………………………NOT!

The IBA comp write-ups need a total overhaul. Getting lamer and more pinpoint focus on certain riders only, never mind the fact that it is as if any event other than male prone doesn't really exist or is some sort of pesky annoyance they have to put up with and is only given the briefest, if any, coverage post-event. And don;t start me on over-rating waves and talking up the conditions, have seen so many complaints about that across the net….
People admire the real – but have a massive distaste for falsity/bullshit and a lot of general public that I know are way over it, also they're wanting to hear more of the riders that aren't the winner on the day, but who they follow religiously and are starved of info on in any press releases.
    PS nice re-wording ;)

yes. wat is with that pinpoint focus crap.
if the news isnt concerning the current flavour of the month its deemed unimportant.
i understand why they talk up the conditions but when u look at the highlights (another low point for me – the editor of the sintra highlights did well covering the prone and the chicks on the beach, but left me nonplussed) u see that it was not all that great.
If im not that crash hot on the winner of the event i dont bother reading about it. If they made the write ups less of a 'yay for this guy the winner' and more 'this is what happened during our stay'; they would definately get more readers.
They wonder why the sport isnt growing. This is not rocket science.
I would have thought a PR priority would be to write a detailed, interesting and accessible press release for site owners like me to pick over, thus getting more coverage for this comp and then the whole tour.
Or will we see a write up in one of the mags…and they dont give the details out freely to keep it exclusive? ugh. the whole thing just stinks.

    cause they are lazy.
    and unoriginal.

Love it! I make a point of emailing IBA Aus when they exclude womens and DK results from their online press releases – it's just plain rude and lazy. How can they possibly expect either division to grow when they fail miserably at promoting it?!

  5. nikki says:

It's easier for me to just bypass IBA altogether and just find out who attended and hit them up for a write up.
which raises the question..Why dont IBA do that? I'm sure there are heaps of frothers that attend the events that migth get knocked out early on but stick around. I bet they would be stoked to do a write up.
    probably too sensible.

I get hassled heaps (in a nice way) by young uns wondering where their mates in trial or low heat rounds ended up and what their scores were. No focus attention given to promote info on the 'lesser beings', the mere mortals having a crack.
Of course i have to tell them i dont know either, cos no one knows until much down the track, if at all. No forward thinking, stuf like that when done properly garners a following instead of write-offs and disrespect for a system that blatantly doesnt work.
    Ps Hi Karleah :)
