Loving one another.

I’m just going to take a moment to say, no scream: OMFG, I CANT BELIEVE THERE ARE STILL IDIOTS THAT HOLD GRUDGES AGAINST PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE OF THE CRAFT THEY DECIDE TO RIDE IN THE SURF. I know right?!?! This ridiculous bandwagon got people no-where 15 years ago and it’s still not getting people anywhere today. This close minded prejudice isn’t just confined to the obvious stand up vs. booger, oh no. There’s got boat rage, clubbie frustration, jet ski hatred, knee board agitation, kook exasperation, foreigner/tourist irritation, crowd resentment, grommie intolerance and SUP vehemence. Just to name a few. Just about any craft you decide to take out in the water even down to the good ole’ blow up mattress, I’m sure there is somebody seething at your presence. CHILL OUT PEOPLE! Do you know them? Have they personally wronged you in any way? Have you even crossed paths prior to this day? No? Well that means that you judging them based on the board they ride and that makes you BOARDIST. Yeah that’s right! I could be the nicest person in the world, kindest most generous lady in the flippin’ universe (which I like to think I am. :) ) but you have me pegged as a douche just because I ride a boog.

It’s tragic and clichéd but the whole: ‘why cant we all just get along?’ sentiment is so fitting. We all are there to enjoy the same thing, for the same reasons. So why cant we just let it go? Why do we still all hate each other? It seems just as we start to make progress towards peace, love and tolerance in the ocean some little smart arse ruins it with their snide comments and hard man act annnnd of course someones there with a camera and the footage gets blown up on Youtube (eg. Hawaii this year, when all those boogers got their faces pulverised) and it becomes cool again.

I think parents should be teaching their kids to be more tolerant in the water. Bullying isn’t allowed in schools, yet it’s totally ok in the water. Parents themselves should be better role models. I am guilty of the pointless joke and the telling myself the drop in was justified because it was a stand up. But, I really do think it’s old now and everyone can do better. I remember my dad telling me from a very early age that it costs nothing to say hello, and he is right. It’s got to be better than having an agro surf. You never know, you might just make a new friend.

I know it's hard, but learn to love the goat boat.

dunno bout loving one another but you are right, people should treat you the same no matter what you choose to ride. It will continue to go on coz as you say the parents are often the ones being poor role models and I have found myself guilty of it in the past but am trying to change my behaviour which was embedded into me as a grommy…I shape boards of all sorts and ride everything ( and what I dont currently own, I want to try )…, I actually like being in the water when there is a diverse variety of surf craft and seeing so many different ways to ride a wave…..( sorry Trev bout sum spelling errors there mate but thats how I rite an spelll haha….)
