Waves of our Lives – Review

Waves of our Lives
From the opening scenes I already know I’m going to enjoy the latest creation of Lachy Palmos. Down to earth with a great mix of stylish riding. The waves are those we can all relate to on a good day, with some solid Hawaii pumpers thrown in.
Jake Stone – Ryan Hardy’s words on Jake are respectful and a big call. You realise how respected Jake is. Bring on the inverts, tweaks, kegs, flips and massive rollo’s and mayhem that is associated Jakey.
Mitch Rawlins – Lackey gives some inside props to the man, standout is “He never says a bad word about anyoneâ€. Mitch is his own man.
Jeff Hubbard – some hectic riding as always. Dre, Skip, Novy, Dall shown in some sweet Hawaii pits.
Brad Hughes – more please
PLC – such a smoking rider in every conditions, Lachy makes the most of the opportunity to shoot his riding in some pumpers.
Kainoa McGee – shacked on his SUP.
Ryan Hardy – the early days†is a great insight to his grommy years about who he watched, what amped him, his older bro and friends pioneering BB in Margs. Lachy has been smart enough to play sick wave footage during the interview audio instead of just staring at a flapping jaw. Nice approach Lachy.
His remarks on MS are pretty real – and of course the real, humble nature of Stewart appealed to him greatly.
Feasty – so sick to see what I’d call a balance of DK in a boog vid. Not only that but in some respect deserving waves too. Lachy has taken the time to film in some smoking swells. Funky soundtrack to this section too.
Alex Halsey – shedder galore, Cade Sharp, Veitchy the long man, Mitch Woodland, sick Josh Garner launch – incomplete – haha, Ryan Donovan in some pure glass, Rigazzzz doin’ it.
DK feature section:
Liam O’Keefe – funny wind-up on his DK rollo by Matt Lackey. Matt Lackey then goes into his travels and his Bodyboarding life accompanied with some honest views on dropknee.
Trent Sanford – one of the original Funkshen lads, so good to see his knee on film again (got one of his old boards around here somewhere).
Liam O’Keefe with some stronger sections to really show his prowess. This kid is going places in the knee world.
Matt doing his thing including a sweet in-barrel spin on the knee. Again the soundtrack is a solid choice, pumping bass but not over the top, suited all the way.
Beeps – again some more insights, again not too much face during the words, lots of waves. Cruisey tunes while he cranks some Hawaii sections with some solid barrel spits again.
And that’s a wrap viewing wise. Some additional editing by Dan Nicols of the claws and Teeth Duo is clear in the real presentation of the footage, and it is no surprise to see thanks to Chris White in the credits, the whole film had that laid-back, non serious vibe which Chris is so much about
.
Additional riders I didn’t mention above include:
- Lee Szczepanski
- Chad Jackson,
- Jose Marquinas (go hard TBC)
- Chad Abbott (Yew Chabbott)
- Brendon Backshall
- Nick Ormerod,
- Adam Luehman,
- Drew Innocend,
- Simon Coleman,
- Mike Honeybone,
- Thorpe Waleuw
- Ryan Donovan
- Sam Boulton.
Music includes
- Patti Smith
- Offspring
- Hanz Cortez
- Massive attack
- Kasabian
- Justice
- The Arcade fire
- The Soft Pack
- Give me a kiss
No Slow-mo, no shots from behind bushes just raw booger footage in the kinds of sick waves we like so much. If you like the pure of booging without the hype, you’ll like this vid.
My summary? Raw and real.
Good job Lachy and I’m hoping we get to see more of your creations mate.
PS – the Bonus sections – yes they’re good, but like a secret break, you’re going to have to go get the vid and find those yourself, haha
